What to Expect at Your First Ashiatsu Massage

Trying something new for your body can feel a little vulnerable, especially when that something involves a massage therapist using her feet. If you've booked your first Ashiatsu session with me (or you're thinking about it), I want you to walk in feeling relaxed and informed. Here's what your visit looks like, step by step.

Before you arrive

Booking is simple. You can choose your session online at infinitehealingmassage.com: 60 minutes ($140), 90 minutes, my Signature Session ($180), or 120 minutes ($220). Gratuity is included, so there's no math at the end.

If this is your first Ashiatsu session and you love deep work, the 90-minute Signature Session gives us time to settle in without rushing. But any length is a lovely place to start.

A few gentle tips:

  • Eat lightly beforehand rather than a big meal.

  • Drink some water during the day.

  • If you're pregnant, recovering from a recent injury or surgery, have a history of blood clots, or have a condition where deep pressure may be a concern, please check with your doctor before booking.

Finding the studio

My private studio is at 101 Providence Mine Rd, Building 101, Suite 103B, Nevada City. When you drive in, it's the first building on the left. It's an easy drive from Grass Valley and anywhere in Nevada County. I'm open Thursday through Saturday, 12 to 8pm, and every session happens here in the studio.

We start with a conversation

Every session begins with your history and your preferences. I'll ask where you're holding tension, how your body has been feeling, any injuries or health concerns, and how you like your pressure. This is your time, so share anything that feels relevant.

Then I do a short hands-on assessment. It helps me feel what's going on in your tissue that day so I can decide where to spend the most time.

On the table

You'll undress to your level of comfort and get on the table under the sheets while I step out. Your comfort and privacy matter to me, and only the area I'm working on is uncovered.

Above the table you'll notice the overhead bars. That's what makes Ashiatsu possible. I hold onto them for balance, which lets me control exactly how much of my weight goes into each stroke.

How the pressure feels

With lotion and my feet, I'll work in long, broad, flowing strokes, often across the back, shoulders, hips and legs. Because the sole of the foot is wide and soft, the pressure is spread out. It often feels deep without the sharp poke of an elbow or thumb.

I'll check in with you, especially early on. Please speak up anytime: "more," "less," or "can you stay there?" are all perfect things to say. There's no wrong answer, and adjusting is part of the work.

After your session

Take your time getting up and dressed. Many clients find they feel loose, warm and a little dreamy afterward, so give yourself a few slow minutes before you drive. Drinking water and taking it easy for the rest of the day is a nice way to let the session settle.

Some people feel a bit of tenderness the next day after deep work, the way you might after a good workout. If anything feels off, let me know.

Keeping the benefits going

If you'd like support between visits, my Rejuvenation Ritual monthly membership includes $20 off sessions and a personal Self-Care Plan with custom stretches, strength and breathing exercises chosen for your body.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to have had a deep massage before trying Ashiatsu?

No. I tailor the pressure to you and check in as we go.

What should I wear?

Whatever's comfortable to arrive in. You'll undress to your comfort level, and you'll be draped with sheets throughout.

Is Ashiatsu the right choice, or should I book deep tissue?

If you're torn, read Ashiatsu vs. Deep Tissue Massage: Which Is Right for You?, or just book and we'll talk it through.

Do you come to my home?

No. Ashiatsu needs the overhead bars, so all sessions take place in my Nevada City studio.

Is gratuity included?

Yes, always. The price you see is what you pay.

Ready for your first session?

I'd be honored to be part of your first Ashiatsu experience. Book your Ashiatsu massage online, and I'll see you at the studio, first building on the left.
